I uploaded it from my digital camera and I'm trying to place it on a spread but i'm not able to because a window keeps popping up telling me I need to change the DPI to 300, or something like that....How the hell do I change the DPI of a picture already saved on my PC?
You'll need an image editing program. Photoshop, Photoshop Elements, Fireworks, Paint Shop Pro, etc. A lot of digital cameras come with software that will allow you to make these changes. BUT-be aware that if you try to go from a low dpi (like a 72dpi screen resolution, for instance) to a high dpi (300 is a good print resolution, so I assume that you're trying to do a print layout), you will see jagged edges and a lot of ';artifacting'; which is when you can visually see a lot of the blocks in the pic.
Actually, Google's free picture editing tool, Picasa, might allow you to do this. http://picasa.google.com/features/index.html
Or you could search the free downloads at http://www.download.com. Read the user reviews and find something that has been reviewed as easy.
Good luck. How the hell do I change the DPI of a picture already saved on my PC?
1. Load your image into Irfanview
2. Select the ';Image %26gt; Resize/Resample'; option
3. In that dialog window you'll see a specific DPI data box
4. Simply enter whatever DPI you want without adjusting anything else in that dialog window.
5. Click on the ';OK'; button
6. Your image DPI has now been set to whatever you want (leaving the pixel dimensions of the image unchanged).
7. Use ';Save As'; to save this photo with a new name.
Oher photo programs will have a similar process.
try downloading irfanview and resizing the picture... should work!!
You would need a photo editing software. Such as Adobe Photoshop, or Jasc's Paint Shop Pro. All these software are retail and cost money. But I'm sure your digital camera would have come with some photo editing software which you can make use of. I dont believe Window's built in software is capable of doing it
